In search of new opportunities in the field of motion design, I found a chance to merge one of my passions (gaming) with my work.
Thus, I began offering a service for creating and producing visual identities for game streaming. The main challenge was explaining
what visual identity meant to streamers less familiar with this more technical area. To overcome this difficulty, I decided to create a
streaming channel and produce two visual identities for it (Mechwar and Invasion).
These practical examples highlighted the potential impact of a visual identity and helped convince future clients.
One of these clients was Guto de Carvalho, who, after a presentation, showed great interest in creating an identity for his channel.
One of the first steps was to get to know the streamer better. What was his style, what types of games did he like to stream, how was he known by his audience. I started watching some of his streams to get some references on how we could create his channel's visual identity.
Guto was an outgoing guy, talked a lot, dressed up, and had a universe of references and catchphrases he used in his streams. His focus wasn't on being the best race car driver, but on entertaining his audience.
It became clear that turning him into a character would be the best approach. I searched for illustrations that captured his characteristics, despite my limited illustration skills. I looked for a silhouette that was fun, expressive, and exaggerated his physical form a bit, aiming to convey movement and liveliness.
Another challenge was creating various perspectives of a race car to dynamize the scenes, as well as learning about techniques and references from animations of the same style.
The intro is always the first piece I develop because it sets the tone for all the content that will follow. I try to create a narrative that represents the spirit of the streamer's channel, that highlighted some striking traits of his personality.
It starts in a calm forest, Guto's character descends from a flying saucer (many of his viewers loved joking that he was from another world due to his peculiar behaviors). After introducing himself, he sets off in search of a nearby race, prepares, and launches into the competition. Although he manages to surpass all the opponents, upon crossing the finish line, he realizes he ended up in last place. This twist was essential to convey the message that the important thing was to have fun, regardless of the final result.
This project was not only filled with challenges but also extremely enjoyable. Direct communication with the client was crucial to understanding how he wanted to be perceived by the audience.
Additionally, it was enriching to acquire new animation techniques, thus elevating the standard of the final delivery and ensuring a highly satisfactory result.
